An island in the mighty Merrimack River. When I went down the first time I knew I had to come back with a tripod.
Why it's the best of 2010 - because it's a powerful subject that river and because I worked for some time on the bank trying to frame this right - particularly that stripe of rough water that leads your eye to the trees. I must have looked funny shuffling around and peering down into my LCD screen over and over again. Longish shutter speed, but not too much that the trees are totally blurry and light that is direct, but not too flat or harsh. Finally though, it came together.
